Agathon Lónard #6363 - Water nymph (Naiad) - Ca 1900

Gilt-bronze bust of a water nymph (Naiad) by Agathon Léonard, circa 1900.
Executed to a very high standard using three different patinas, featuring beautifully detailed strands of hair and a highly refined facial expression.
The half-closed eyes in the lovely face—seemingly rising from the water and entwined with reeds and a bulrush—evoke the dreamy atmosphere characteristic of this superb example of Symbolist Art Nouveau sculpture.
The bust is in fantastic condition and is signed on the side of the base.
Fully marked by the Susse Frères foundry, with an additional foundry stamp and further markings on the back.
Height: 30 cm.
