Moving bronze figure of a Japanese girl with her heron friend by her side, wearing a rosette-printed kimono and standing on Geta, the typical Japanese wooden shoes also known as Kanji.
Executed in various patinas and signed on the base H M White.
Features the title "Amis Nippons" on the inside of the base, written in East Indian ink.
Made by Helene Maynard White around 1925.
In Japanese symbolism, the heron has a clear and positive meaning. The core is that in Japan, the heron is seen as a bringer of good luck and a symbol of a long life.
The beautifully detailed, sweet little face and the posture of the hands, one caressing the heron and the other holding a small bowl, make this serene scene a pleasure to behold.
A high-quality Art Deco sculpture that has not previously been seen on the market.
