Miniature vase made by Daum, Nancy, circa 1905, with an etched and enameled design of a snowy forest landscape.
These kinds of vases used to be in the presentation case of a sales representative who used them to show Daum pieces to the respective retailers.
The inscription "Compiègne" appears underneath this vase, meaning that this design was named after the forest 60 km north of Paris, the Bois de Compiègne.
This design was one of the most sought-after at the time, and it is remarkable that it was only after the discovery of this vase that a design name was given to it.
It is very delicately executed, and it is incredible that such a depth effect was achieved on such a small surface using such a difficult technique.
